Water-Saving Guide to Have Fun this Summer

save our mother earthThe kids are out of school, your vacation days are booked, and the great outdoors are practically calling your name.

Even if you are a conscientious homeowner, things can get a little difficult in the summer when cooling down and having fun become your top priorities.

Here are a few ways you can have fun while keeping up your water-conservation principles:

Sponge  or Balloon Fights

Fill up some buckets of water and place them around your yard and distribute the sponges to your kids. Once the sponge has been tossed and has hit the intended target, they can be reused and “reloaded” for another throw.

If a sponge fight is a little too chaotic for your liking, you can also play with water balloons, however, filling them up only halfway, or simply making a water balloon race will lower the amount of water you spend.

Hose Limbo

Everyone loves the limbo. Crank up some upbeat music and use the water stream from your hose as the limbo stick. Make sure your hose is in good working condition and have your family take turns holding the “limbo stick” so everyone can get a chance to cool off.

In most cases, hose limbo often devolves into simply spraying each other with the hose, which is often the part that is most fun!

DIY Slip and Slide

Make sure there are no sharp rocks or edges in the immediate area. Squirt a small amount of dish soap on the plastic and pour a few buckets of water on it for an afternoon of slip and slide fun!

Sensory Play with Ice Cubes

Who said learning can’t be fun? For younger kids, this sensory game is a great way to cool down and learn at the same time. Take some small toys and freeze them or make a giant ice cube by freezing water in a balloon then popping the balloon once the ice is frozen.

The kids will get a kick out of seeing a toy frozen in ice or learning about how water freezes when it’s cold and melts when it’s hot.

Run Through the Sprinkler

It also serves a double purpose by watering your yard at the same time, keeping your grass lush and green.
